The Mekong River

The Mekong is foundation of South East of Asia. It is the 12th longest river in the world, 4800 km long. From its source in China, near the boarder with Tibet, the Mekong crosses the Yun-Nan Province in China, forms the boarder between Burma and Laos as well as most of the boarder between Laos and Thailand and then flows across Cambodia. Becoming the Tonle Thom (Great River) and meeting the Tonle Sap in Phnom Penh, it then flows across southern Vietnam into a rich delta before ending into the South China Sea.

More than 60 million people are depending on this water and fishery resource, many of whom being among the poorest in the world.
