• The Royal place
is principally formed by :
- The Terrace of the Leper King
- The Elephant Terrace with the Royal
Palace and its temple, the Celestial Palace (Phimeanakas)
called the « gold tower » by Tcheou Ta Kouan

• This square 500 m long, and 200 m wide was for sure fit to
the pomp and grandeur of the Khmer Empire at its height,
with infantry, cavalry, horse drawn chariots and elephants
parading in a colourful procession, pennants and standards
aloft. |

• we will imagine
the buildings covered with golden bronze, the festivals and
appearance of the King which have so impressed the Chinese
visitors in the 13th century… your predecessor as it were !
• We will visit the Royal Square and the neighbouring
monuments in the morning, by preference, to enjoy the best
lighting conditions. |
