Cambodia lies in a tropical zone and has a high
average but bearable temperature (latitude 15° North
like Guatemala, Senegal or French Antillas).
Cambodia's climate--like that of the rest of
Southeast Asia--is dominated by two monsoons :
- In summer, moisture-laden
air--the southwest monsoon--is drawn landward from
the Indian Ocean
- During the winter the flow
is reversed, and the Northeast monsoon sends back
dry air
Cambodian people traditionally distinguish 3 seasons
(and not only 2) :
- The “fresh” season, from
November to February,
- The “dry” season, the
warmest one, from March to May,
- The “rainy” season, from
June to November.

The « fresh » season is of course very
favourable for tourism.
The « dry season » is also favourable but
the temperatures may rise up to 35°C and the
period of the Khmer New Year bring a crowd
of Asian and Cambodian tourists.
The « rainy » season offers the advantage of
the fact that less people visit Angkor
during this period. |

It may also be pleasant because rain often fall
in spectacular intense bursts just for an hour at a
time in the evening with fantastic lightening
displays but roads are muddy and don’t allow to
venture off the beaten track.
